Attendance of the Cour de cassation at the annual meeting of the Association of European Competition Law Judges (AECLJ)

03/06/2024

Five French judges took part in the annual conference of national competition law judges of the European Union in Berlin from 30 May 2024 to 1 June 2024 organised by the Association of European Competition law judges (AECLJ).

The conference focused on two specific topics: Competition and Sport; and Competition and Arbitration.

The Association of European Competition Law Judges was created in 2002. It enables judges specialised in competition law judges to be involved in developments in European competition law, while promoting exchanges of experience between judges.

The association currently has 300 members.

Sylvaine Poillot-Peruzzetto, judge at the Commercial Chamber of the Cour de Cassation and François Le Masne de Chermont, Judge Referee at the Commercial Chamber of the Cour de cassation, took part in the conference, providing information on French case law. Also present were Daniel Barlow, President of the International Chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal and Sophie Depelley jugdge at the Paris Court of Appeal, and Fabienne Siredey-Garnier, a magistrate seconded to the French competition authority.

This participation enabled a presentation of the Court's case law in this area, and is a key component of the international strategy pursued by the First President, aimed at promoting the

representation of the Cour de cassation in bodies for dialogue between European magistrates.
