Crystal Scales of Justice 2023 Prize ceremony

06/10/2023

On 4 October 2023, First President Christophe Soulard attended the prize ceremony for the Crystal Scales of Justice 2023.

Created in 2005, the "Crystal Scales of Justice" is a competition organised by the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) to discover and highlight innovative and effective practices concerning the operation of justice, judicial procedures or the organisation of courts.

Three winning teams were given the opportunity to develop their innovative projects for justice:

o The "Kids in Court Game (KiCGame)" project from Cyprus

o The project for a civil and criminal chamber specialising in environmental and town planning matters, from the Mons Court of Appeal in Belgium

o The Facility Dogs Europe (FYDO) project, run jointly by Belgium, Italy and France.

This first project won the prize from the jury, chaired by Advocate General Sonya Djemni-Wagner, French member of the CEPEJ, for its specific aim of helping child victims to speak out in criminal proceedings and to limit the trauma they may experience through play.

The Cour de Cassation is once again showing its interest in the work carried out by the CEPEJ, which is a source of inspiration in terms of good jurisdictional practice.

In fact, the Cour de cassation will be welcoming members of this commission on 13 October at its conference on the workload of magistrates.
