On 5 and 6 December, the First President went to Luxembourg to take part in the Special Judicial Forum organized the Court of Justice of the European Union on the occasion of its 70th anniversary celebrations.
The event brought together the heads of the high courts of the Member States, as well as the presidents of the European institutions, around the theme of « Justice close to the citizen ».
In addition to discussions on the latest case law of the Court of Justice and the General Court of the European Union, the exchanges focused in particular on the subjects of judicial independence, the intelligibility of judicial decisions and jurisdictional communication – which have a direct resonance in the national context and the current reflections surrounding the judicial institution in France.
During his visit, the First President also met with the President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Mr Koen Lenaerts, and with the President of the General Court of the European Union, Mr Marc van der Woude, in order to demonstrate his wish to strengthen the close ties between the Court of Cassation and the two European courts, both through high-level meetings and the organisation of joint working seminars.
