First President Christophe Soulard and Prosecutor-General Rémy Heitz were invited to the Algerian Supreme Court for the celebration of its sixtieth anniversary, on April 27 and 28, 2024, for an international conference on the theme of the electronic Supreme Court. At the pinnacle of the judicial system, the Supreme Court of Algeria was established by law no. 63-218 of June 18, 1963, and was first installed in 1964. This invitation is part of the continuity of the actions carried out by the Cour de cassation as part of the Programme d'Appui au Secteur de la Justice en Algérie (PASJA) piloted by Expertise France and the French Embassy in Algiers, and following the missions carried out in 2023 in Algeria and France.

The conference was opened by First President Tahar Mamouni and Minister of Justice Abderrachid Tabi. It continued with international feedback on the implementation of computerization in supreme courts.

First President Christophe Soulard spoke in a speech broadcast by video. He praised the quality of cooperation between the two supreme courts, particularly on methodological issues. He then retraced the history of the digitization of proceedings at the Cour de cassation, which has been fully dematerialized in civil matters since 2002. He went on to talk about the major Open Data project for court decisions, and the new concerns raised by artificial intelligence for the legal professions.

All the discussions raised awareness of the common issues and challenges facing superior courts and the legal profession as a whole, particularly with regard to the digitization of procedures and the use of instruments.

This participation illustrates the close cooperation between the Cour de cassation and the Supreme Court of Algeria. It marks the start of a new cycle of sustained cooperation between the Courts, which is set to continue.
