On 23 June 2023, the Cour de cassation welcomed a delegation of Mozambican judges as part of an exchange programme with the Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature, to learn more about maritime litigation in France.
On this occasion, Judge Hélène Guillou and Judge referee Stéphanie Kass-Danno, members of the Commercial, Financial and Economic Chamber, presented the cassation technique as applied by the Cour de cassation. The presentation was followed by a discussion with Mozambican judges on maritime law and how the Cour de cassation handles it. In the context of the establishment of three specialised maritime courts, responsible for civil, commercial and criminal litigation, the Mozambican judges were particularly interested in learning about the issues and methods of the commercial chamber.
The exchange was preceded by a visit to the heritage of the Cour de cassation, during which the delegation was given an historical and artistic presentation of the Palais de Justice.
This meeting enabled fruitful exchanges wi²th the Mozambican magistrates, completing a very diverse ENM programme on the discovery of the various institutions involved in maritime law.
